Our story

CAQA Apex Manufacturing

CAQA Apex Manufacturing is a process manufacturer of construction and mineral products. The Yatala plant grinds, blends and packs dry powder products such as tile adhesives, renders, grouts, floor levelling compounds and blended cements into 20 kilogram bags and one tonne bulk bags. The Bundamba yard batches concrete and casts, finishes and cures precast elements including wall panels, culverts, pits and stair units for civil and commercial builders. The Townsville plant blends a smaller range for the North Queensland market. Customers include hardware chains, tiling and rendering contractors, precast erectors, civil contractors and water utilities across Queensland and northern New South Wales.

The business is organised into six departments across three sites. Yatala runs a continuous operation on three eight-hour shifts, five days a week, with a day shift on Saturdays for cleaning and maintenance. The blending plant has two raw material silos banks, a hammer mill, two ribbon blenders, a valve bag packer, a bulk bag station and an automated palletiser. Bundamba runs a single extended day shift with a concrete batch plant, a reinforcement bay, a casting hall with six mould lines and an outdoor curing and storage yard. Planning, Stores and Dispatch coordinates raw material intake, finished goods stock and around 40 outbound truck movements a day.

Apex operates a certified quality management system and every product is released against a test certificate from the on-site laboratory. Safety is managed under the Work Health and Safety Act with a strong focus on respirable crystalline silica, mobile plant and pedestrian separation, confined space entry into silos and mixers, and manual handling on the packing and precast lines. A permit to work system controls all non-routine work. Environmental performance is managed under the site environmental authority, covering dust, stormwater, noise and waste. Every incident, hazard, nonconformance and customer complaint is recorded, investigated and closed through the corrective action process, and the leadership team reviews performance at a monthly quality, safety and environment meeting.

What we stand for

Safety first

Nobody is hurt making our products. Every person has the authority and the duty to stop work that is not safe.

Right first time

We follow the recipe, the procedure and the test plan so that every batch meets specification before it leaves the site.

Respect

We treat every colleague, customer, driver and neighbour with courtesy and listen before we act.

Keep improving

Every shift finds a better way, records it and shares it so the improvement sticks.
