Blender 2 isolated until further notice
Ribbon blender 2 is isolated and locked after the inspection hatch interlock failed to prevent the hatch opening while the agitator was coasting. Nobody is to remove the isolation or attempt to run blender 2 until Maintenance and the Safety and Environment Manager confirm the interlock has been tested and the permit closed. All hatch interlocks across site will be tested this week.

Respirator fit testing week
The occupational hygienist will be on site at Yatala from 14 to 18 September to fit test respirators for everyone in a silica exposure group. Bookings are on the safety noticeboard. Come clean shaven, bring your own respirator and allow 20 minutes. Fit testing is a condition of working in a listed task, so anyone not tested by the 18th will be reassigned until they are.

Quality system surveillance audit
The certification body will conduct the annual surveillance audit of the quality management system on 6 and 7 October at Yatala and Bundamba. The auditor will want to see batch records, test records, calibration records and closed nonconformances. Please make sure your records are complete and filed. Sanjay will run refresher sessions in the last week of September.

Heat management plan starts 1 October
The heat management plan comes into effect at Bundamba and Townsville on 1 October. Supervisors will check the forecast each morning and schedule heavy outdoor work for the cooler hours where they can. Water stations and shade will be set up in the casting yard and the loading area. Report any symptoms of heat illness straight away.

Health and safety representative election
Nominations are open for health and safety representatives for the blending, precast and maintenance work groups. Representatives serve for two years, receive five days of approved training and attend the monthly health and safety committee. Nomination forms are with the Safety and Environment team and close on 25 September.
