Batch record

The controlled record of a single batch showing the recipe, raw material lots, quantities, times, tests and sign-off that gives full traceability.

Changeover

The cleaning and set-up work between two products on the same plant, verified by a checklist so that the previous product does not contaminate the next.

Confined space

An enclosed or partly enclosed space such as a silo, blender or pit that is not designed for people to occupy and where the atmosphere or engulfment can cause harm.

Isolation

Physically disconnecting and locking every energy or material source to plant so that it cannot start or release energy while people work on it.

Lifting insert

A cast-in anchor in a precast element that is matched to a specific lifting clutch and rated for the weight and lifting angle of the element.

Nonconformance

Any product, material or process that does not meet the specification, drawing or order and must be held until a disposition is recorded.

Permit to work

A written authorisation for non-routine work that confirms hazards, isolations and controls have been agreed by the permit issuer and the permit holder.

Respirable crystalline silica

The very fine fraction of silica dust from cement, sand and mineral fillers that can reach deep into the lungs and cause silicosis.

Stripping strength

The minimum concrete strength, confirmed by test cylinders, that a precast element must reach before it can be lifted from its mould.

Tolerable deficiency

The maximum amount by which an individual pre-packaged item is permitted to fall below its labelled weight under the trade measurement rules.
