Environmental Management Policy

Purpose. Commits Apex to complying with its environmental authority and to reducing the environmental impact of manufacturing at each site.

1.Commitment

Apex will comply with the Environmental Protection Act and the conditions of the environmental authority for each site. The business will prevent pollution, reduce waste and use energy and water efficiently. Environmental performance will be reported to the leadership team monthly and to the regulator as the authority requires.

2.Key environmental aspects

The significant environmental aspects of the business have been identified through an aspects and impacts assessment that is reviewed each year. Controls for each aspect are documented in procedures and monitored through the environmental monitoring program.

• Dust from raw material handling, grinding, blending and packing
• Stormwater from yards and the precast curing area
• Noise from the mill, packer, cranes and truck movements
• Washout water and concrete waste at Bundamba
• Packaging waste, off-specification product and returned goods
• Energy use in grinding, compressed air and curing

3.Monitoring and reporting

Dust deposition gauges, stormwater discharge sampling and boundary noise measurements will be carried out to the program in the environmental monitoring plan. Results must be recorded within two working days of receipt and any exceedance must be reported to the Safety and Environment Manager immediately. Complaints from neighbours must be logged, investigated and answered within five working days.

4.Responsibilities

The General Manager is accountable for environmental compliance. The Safety and Environment Manager maintains the monitoring program, the environmental authority register and the reporting calendar. Supervisors must ensure dust extraction, bunding and washout controls are working at the start of every shift. Every worker must report spills, dust escapes and control failures immediately.

5.Waste and resource recovery

Off-specification powder will be reworked into a suitable recipe where the specification allows, and otherwise disposed of through a licensed receiver. Concrete waste at Bundamba will be crushed and reused as fill where the customer specification permits. Packaging will be segregated for recycling. Waste transfer records must be kept for every load leaving site.

6.Review

This policy and the aspects register will be reviewed annually and after any environmental incident, regulatory notice or significant change to plant or process.
