Purpose. Lists every hazardous chemical used or stored at each site with its safety data sheet, storage location, quantity and controls, as required by the Work Health and Safety Regulation.

1.Scope

This register lists all hazardous chemicals held at Yatala, Bundamba and Townsville including cementitious powders, admixtures, release agents, curing compounds, fuels, gases, cleaning chemicals and laboratory reagents. Raw materials that are hazardous chemicals are included even though they are also listed in the stock records.

2.Register entries

Each entry must show the product name, the supplier, the hazard classification from the safety data sheet, the physical form, the storage location, the maximum quantity held, the date of the current safety data sheet and the risk assessment reference. The safety data sheet must be less than five years old and must be available at the point of use.

3.Current entries at Yatala

The following chemicals are held at Yatala. Quantities are the maximum held and are reviewed quarterly by the storeperson and the Safety and Environment Manager.

  • General purpose cement, bulk silo, 120 tonnes, respirable crystalline silica and skin irritant
  • Hydrated lime, bulk bags, 20 tonnes, corrosive to eyes and skin
  • Redispersible polymer powder, bags, 8 tonnes, combustible dust
  • Cellulose ether, bags, 2 tonnes, combustible dust
  • Diesel, above ground tank, 5,000 litres, flammable liquid
  • Liquefied petroleum gas, forklift cylinders, 12 cylinders, flammable gas
  • Laboratory hydrochloric acid, 10 litres, corrosive

4.Adding a chemical

No new chemical will be brought onto site until the Safety and Environment Manager has obtained the safety data sheet, completed a risk assessment, confirmed storage and added the entry to the register. Samples from suppliers are included in this requirement.

5.Storage and segregation

Chemicals must be stored as shown in the register and in accordance with the safety data sheet. Flammable liquids and gases must be kept in the designated stores away from oxidisers and corrosives. Bunded storage must be checked weekly and the check recorded.

6.Review

The register must be reviewed every quarter and whenever a chemical is added or removed. The review must be recorded with the date and the name of the reviewer.
